Essential Wordpress Plugin for new Blog

Starting a blog technically is now only a few minutes job, thanks to WordPress. Many web hosting service providers single click WordPress installation for newly created domain. But I think, installing WordPress is not enough to start earning online using your blog site. You must do few configuration before you actually can expect visitors to come to your blog from search engines.

Here is the list of to do and few plugins I suggest one to use :

1. Settings -> Permalinks : I recommend people to use Custom Structure to be “/%category%/%postname%/” ( without double quotes). Category with blog title may create a good keywords to make search engines happy.

2. All in One SEO Pack : A plugin by Michael Torbert. A must install after WordPRess script is installed. Out-of-the-box SEO for your Wordpress blog, highly configurable. One can download from Wordpress Extend too.

3. Google XML Sitemaps : Automatic Google Sitemap generator for your WordPress blog. This plugin will generate a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO. A must plugin for every blog developed by Arne Brachhold.

4. WP-PageNavi : It provides proper and user friendly navigation for WordPress Blogs. Developed by Lester ‘GaMerZ’ Chan. It is very useful plugin for navigation.

5. Contact Me : A Contact Me plugin like Contact 7 is a must. It is very useful for a blog for asking readers to contact the blogger.

6. Socal Bookmarking Tool : One Social Book marking tool is a must for sharing post or bookmark it in Social Networking Sites by readers. I recommend Add To Any which helps Help readers share, save, bookmark, and email your posts and pages using any service, a plugin from Add To any.

7. Akismet : It is a anti-spam plugin for blocking spam comments. Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not. You need a WordPress.com API key to use it. You can review the spam it catches under “Comments”, developed by Matt Mullenweg. It is must have plugin.

There are thousands of plugins which one may use in WordPress blogs. I will try to update which are useful plugin to be used.
